Frequently Asked Questions
We know that reaching out to a law firm can come with questions. Here, we provide answers to common questions about consultations, the types of matters we handle, fees, communication, and what you can expect when you contact Old Dominion Trial Lawyers.
What types of matters does Old Dominion Trial Lawyers handle?
We handle a broad range of civil litigation matters. Please visit our Practice Areas section to learn more about the types of cases we handle. If you do not see your particular matter listed, call or text us at 757-738-5437. We are happy to discuss your situation and determine whether we may be able to assist you.
How do I request a consultation?
You may request a consultation by submitting the contact form on our website or by calling or texting us at 757-738-5437. Please provide your contact information and a brief description of your legal matter. A member of our team will contact you to discuss your inquiry and the consultation process.
Does submitting a form create an attorney-client relationship?
No. Submitting information through the website or scheduling a consultation does not create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship is formed only through a written agreement with the firm.
Is there a consultation fee?
Yes. We offer one-hour consultations for $300. Our attorneys are available to meet by telephone or Zoom video conference to review the details of your matter, answer questions, and provide general legal guidance.
A consultation can help you better understand your legal matter and your available options. After the consultation, you can decide whether you would like to retain our firm for additional legal work. In some cases, the consultation may provide the guidance you need to better understand how to move forward.
Our team is available to assist you with scheduling a consultation. Call or text us at 757-738-5437 to book a time.
What information should I provide when I contact the firm?
Please provide your name, contact information, a brief description of your legal matter, and the names of any other individuals or entities involved. This information helps our team understand your needs and determine how we may be able to assist you. It may also be necessary to complete a conflict check before scheduling a consultation.
What happens after I submit my inquiry?
A member of our team will contact you after your inquiry is received to discuss your matter, answer any initial questions, and, if appropriate, schedule a consultation.
Does the firm handle matters throughout Virginia?
Yes. Although we are based in Virginia Beach, we assist clients with matters throughout Virginia. We use technology to make distance convenient, and consultations and communications with our attorneys are available by telephone or Zoom video conference. You do not need to be located near Virginia Beach to work with our firm.
What if I am not sure whether my issue fits the firm’s practice?
You can still contact the firm with a brief description of the matter. The intake process can help determine whether your issue may fit the firm’s practice or whether another referral may be more appropriate.
Can I call instead of using the form?
Should I send confidential documents before speaking with the firm?
You are welcome to email documents to us ahead of your scheduled consultation if you believe they will be helpful. The consultation provides an opportunity for you to discuss and reference those documents with the attorney, but please understand that our attorneys do not review all documents in advance of the consultation.
